Feedback In, Roadmap Out

A public roadmap for indie apps that stays connected to feedback

FeaturePortal turns selected feature requests into a shareable roadmap. Show what is planned, what is being built, and what has shipped without exposing every raw idea or internal decision.

Planned

Validated requests you have approved and intend to address.

In Progress

Work that is actively moving toward a release.

Shipped

Completed improvements users can now find in the product.

What is a public product roadmap?

A public roadmap is a customer-facing view of selected product work. Its purpose is to communicate direction and progress, not to promise exact delivery dates or expose an internal backlog.

For a small app team, the most sustainable roadmap is generated from the same request records already used for prioritization. Updating a request's status should update the public view instead of creating another document to maintain.

Visible on the roadmap

Approved, in-progress, and completed requests can show direction and delivery progress.

Kept out of public view

Pending ideas and rejected requests remain internal until you intentionally change their status.

A roadmap should close the feedback loop

Users are more likely to trust a feedback process when they can see ideas move from request to planned work and then to shipped. FeaturePortal keeps the original votes and discussion attached to that lifecycle.

  1. 1

    Collect

Requests arrive from the SwiftUI SDK, web widget, or REST API.

  2. 2

    Review

You compare demand, read context, add tags, and decide whether an idea fits the product.

  3. 3

    Publish

Approved work appears on the public roadmap when the project is public.

  4. 4

    Update

Move work through in progress and completed as development advances.

When should an indie app use a public roadmap?

Use one when

  • Users repeatedly ask what is coming next.
  • You want to reduce duplicate feature requests.
  • You can update statuses consistently.
  • You are comfortable communicating direction without fixed dates.

Keep it private when

  • Plans contain confidential partnerships or security work.
  • Priorities change too quickly to keep the page useful.
  • Your team cannot explain why visible work changes.
  • The page would be treated as a contractual delivery commitment.

FeaturePortal leaves the choice with each project. Keep the roadmap private while you establish the workflow, then publish it when the selected statuses are ready for users.
